BALARUC LES BAINS

On the opposite side of the " Mont Saint Clair ", the peninsula of Balaruc stretches into the water of the " Etang de Thau ". The Romans developed its increasingly well-known baths. BÉZIERS

Perched on a hill at the foot of which the river Orb and the " Canal du midi " sprawl, Béziers is one of the most extraordinary ports-of-call on your trip. Founded by the Greeks of Marseille, colonised by the Romans, and ransacked by the Sarrasins in 720 and by Charlemagne. It is the birthplace of the well-known French engineer, Riquet, the father of the " Canal du Midi ". If you are loking for somethingoriginal, go through the lock at Fonséranes, then on to the river Orb by its aqueduc. If you are looking for peace and quiet stroll on the promenade of the Poets and admire the statue of Riquet. If you are looking for fun, the feria in August is, at one and the same time, the feast of the bull, the horse, wine, music and summer. The " Festival de Béziers et de la Côte Languedocienne " is the high point for musical entertainment in July. As for sports ...rugby is king.

BOUZIGUES
