AGDE
Because it is built on lava, Marco Pollo called the town : the black town. The sand gradually encroached upon this ancient harbor, and today, its only link with the Mediterranean sea is the river Herault. Around 580 B .C. Greeks from Asia founded the colony of Agathé and some ruins such as the statue of "Ephèbe" found in the river bear witness to the presence of the Greeks in this city. You will cross the lock " La Ronde ", especially built by Pierre-Paul Riquet, who masterminded the whole construction, and go from the canal itself into the river Hérault. It was rebuilt to receive trade barges. So... History is waiting for you, but also the present with the busy nightlife in Cap d'Agde.

Dominated by Mount Saint Clair and Sète, the " Etang de Thau " is a real inland sea (8000 ha) separated from the Mediterranean sea by a narrow of land strip. Wind beaten, it can be a hazard for river navigation, but it is so sublime at sundown. Here Nature is generous : fish, oysters, mussels and other shellfish. One can not imagine the " Etang " without its oyster beds. On the banks of this expanse of water, several villages such as Marseillan, Mèze, Bouzigues, Balaruc are reflected in the " Etang " and are waiting to unfold their history to you.

SUR LA ROUTE DU PRUNEAU D'AGEN
This small fruit has been part of our culinary heritage for centuries. Black, wrinkled, shiny and sweet, its taste was already a favorite in high Antiquity. The Crusaders probably brought it back from Syria, and the monks in Clayrac were the first to make prunes from it. Sun-soaked, it is dried and loses 60% of its weight before earning the name of Pruneau d'Agen.
